As part of the national water
services activities, the
government is now seriously
looking on the Non-revenue water
reduction works. According to
Evaluation and Analysis of the
various components of NRW losses
(Prepared by IMA/AWWA) the
components of NRW losses can be
categorized as below:
|
System Input Volume |
Authorized

Billed Authorized
Consumption |
Billed Water Consumption
(Including Water
Exported) |
Revenue Water |
|
Billed Unmetered
Consumption |
Unbilled Authorized
Consumption |
Unbilled Metered
Consumption |
Non-Revenue Water (NRW) |
|
Unbilled Unmetered

|
Water Loses |
Apparent Losses |
Unauthorized Consumption |
|
Customer Metering

|
|
Data Handling Errors |
|
Real Losses |
Leakage on Transmission
& Distribution Mains |
|
Leakage and Overflows at
Utility's Storage Tanks
|
|
Leakage on Service
Connections up to Point
of Customer Metering |
In the past, the Non-Revenue
Water losses averaged at a high
percentage of 40%, which
required an urgent need to
overcome the water losses. Thus,
with a proper management system
in place, the water losses can
be reduced to an acceptable
level.
